SECTION 1

URBAN
AREA

An urban area is characterized by higher
population density and vast human features
in comparison to areas surrounding it.
Urban areas may be cities, towns or
conurbations, but the term is not commonly
extended to rural settlements such as
villages and hamlets.

Urban areas are created and further
developed by the process of urbanization.
Measuring the extent of an urban area
helps in analyzing population density
and urban sprawl, and in determining
urban and rural populations.

Unlike an urban area, a metropolitan
area includes not only the urban area,
but also satellite cities plus
intervening rural land that is
socio-economically connected to the
urban core city, typically by
employment ties through commuting,
with the urban core city being the
primary labor market.

SECTION 2

URBAN
PLANNING

Urban, city, and town planning integrates
land use planning and transportation
planning to improve the built, economic
and social environments of communities.
Regional planning deals with a still
larger environment, at a less detailed
level.

Urban planning can include urban renewal,
by adapting urban planning methods to
existing cities suffering from decay and
lack of investment.

HOUSING
AND
URBAN
DEVELOPMENT

The Emergency Capital Repair Grant Program
(ECRGP) is run by the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development.

It is designed to help you with home repair.
ECRGP is a need-based program that focuses
on elderly and low-income individuals. HUD
provides grant money to repair homes to
safe and livable condition, so requests
must be for repairs necessary for your
and your family's well-being.
