ISLAM

Islam is the religion of truth. It is the embodiment of the code of life which
God, the Creator and Lord of the universe, has revealed for the guidance
of mankind.

For the proper development of human life, man needs two elements:

(a) the resources to maintain life and to fulfill the material needs
of the individual and society,

(b) knowledge of the principles of individual and social behavior to
enable man to fulfill himself and to maintain justice and tranquillity
in human life.

FIVE PILLARS
OF ISLAM

The Five Pillars of Islam (arkan al-Islam also arkan al-din "pillars
of the religion") are five basic acts in Islam, considered mandatory
by believers and are the foundation of Muslim life. They are summarized
in the famous hadith of Gabriel.

They make up Muslim life, prayer, concern for the needy, self
purification and the pilgrimage. They are:

1. Shahadah: declaring there is no god except God, and Muhammad
is God's Messenger

2. Salat: ritual prayer five times a day

3. Zakat: giving 2.5% of one’s savings to the poor and needy

4. Sawm: fasting and self-control during the holy month of Ramadan

5. Hajj: pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime if one is able

The Shia and Sunni both agree on the essential details for the performance
and practice of these acts, but the Shia do not refer to them by the same
name (see Ancillaries of the Faith, for the Twelvers, and Seven pillars of
Ismailism).

THE SEVEN
PRINCIPLES OF
MUSLIM RELIGION BELIEFS

The Muslim religion is one of the biggest in the world. Even though
there are more than one billion followers of various races and
nationalities, the basics of Muslim religion beliefs is still quite
unknown to many people.

While the religion is very complex, and includes many different sects
with variable beliefs, there are some basic tenets that are true for
most Muslims. Below are the Seven Principles of the Muslim religion.

1. The Unity of God (Tawheed)

2. Belief that Muhammad was the voice of God (Risallah)

3. Belief that angels exist (Mala ‘ikah)

4. Trust and belief in the books of God (Kutubullah)

5. An understanding there will be a day of judgment (Yawmuddin)

6. Belief in predestination (Al-Qadr)

7. Belief that there is life after death (Akriah)

These seven principles are the foundation for much of what the followers
of the Muslim religion do, say and think.

Muslim Religion Beliefs: Five Pillars of Islam

The above seven principles explain the basic Muslim religion beliefs.
The Five Pillars of Islam, listed below, speak to the actions that
Muslims must take in order to please Allah.

1. Testimony of Faith (Kalima): A Muslim must be ready and willing to
testify of their belief in Allah.

2. Prayer (Salat): Muslims follow a strict prayer schedule and must stop
to pray at the appointed times each day.

3. Almsgiving (Zakat): Giving to those who are less fortunate is an
important part of Muslim religion beliefs.

4. Fasting (Sawm): Regular fasts are believed to help bring Muslims under
the submission of their God.

5. Pilgrimage (Hajj): This refers to a pilgrimage to Mecca, and is something
every Muslim is to try and do at least one time.

Muslim Religion Beliefs: Allah

One of the very basic aspects of Muslim religion beliefs is the concept that
there is only one God. Monotheism is not exclusively a Muslim tenet. Judaism
and Christianity also believe in one God.

Muslims believe that this one God, Allah, is omnipotent, merciful and that he
created everything that exists.

The Koran lists 99 Names of Allah. These 99 names, including Al-Aziz and
Al-Khaliq, each refer to a characteristic of Allah. For example, Al-Aziz
means The Almighty and Al-Khaliq means The Creator.

Muslim Religion Beliefs: Other Factors

As Muslims seek to adhere to the seven principles and live up to the five
pillars of their religion, this impacts decisions that are made in their
daily lives. This includes modest dress, adhering to strong business ethics,
embracing and helping others in the Muslim community and caring for their
children in a way that ensures they will also follow the faith.

Muslim religion beliefs are held close to those who are serious about their
faith. This fascinating religion continues to grow in number as the faithful
lead others to their form of truth.
