Race, the idea that the human species is divided into distinct groups
on the basis of inherited physical and behavioral differences.
Genetic studies in the late 20th century refuted the existence of
biogenetically distinct races, and scholars now argue that “races”
are cultural interventions reflecting specific attitudes and beliefs
that were imposed on different populations in the wake of western
European conquests beginning in the 15th century.

Critical race theory (CRT), intellectual movement and loosely
organized framework of legal analysis based on the premise
that race is not a natural, biologically grounded feature of
physically distinct subgroups of human beings but a socially
constructed (culturally invented) category that is used to
oppress and exploit people of colour. Critical race theorists
hold that the law and legal institutions in the United States
are inherently racist insofar as they function to create and
maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between
whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans.

Critical Race Theory is not the traditional civil rights movement,
which sought to provide equal opportunity and dignity without regard
to race. Rather, Critical Race Theory, and the training to implement
it, is a radical ideology that focuses on race as the key to
understanding society, and objectifies people based on race.
